Arbutus unedo

This tree is well known for its beautiful fruit which bear some resemblance to the strawberry hence the common name. Although not related. As they mature the sugars ferment to produce alcohol which attracts more wildlife especially birds while the flowers are a magnet for honey bees. Thought to be native to south west of Ireland although I took this photograph in the Algarve region of Portugal.
