Papaver rhoeas

Common Poppy - One of the peoples favourites. The Common Poppy flowers from June to September. Found around waste ground, gravel pits, roadsides and recently disturbed soils. Used as a symbol of remembrance to those who fell in the first and second world wars. Poppy wreaths are laid at war memorials as a symbol of respect and chosen for the blood red colour. A field full of Poppy's, or just one bloom is a sight to behold.
